Lego-tastic Wedding Cake

Last weekend, chief cake-tester and I tied the knot. We had the BEST day ever – filled with laughter and tears, surrounded by our wonderful family and friends, some of whom had travelled across the world to join our special day. We ate and drank to our hearts content, ‘oh-ed’ and ‘ah-ed’ at the surprise Star Wars fireworks display (thanks Babsy and Grumps) and danced the night away – ending with a rather amusing group dance to New York, New York where the garter somehow made its way from my leg to the hubby’s head, and then disappeared, never to be seen again. HOWEVER, being avid cake lovers, one of the many highlights of the day was our wedding cake, made by an extremely talented family friend.

Lego Wedding Cake We wanted something a bit different, and after a few ideas, we came up with the idea of a Lego cake based on our mutual childhood love. After finding a few photos online, we passed them along to Margaret to get her opinion and she was game (especially as we were not asking her to make 15 cakes like my older sister!) It also meant that we could find Lego figurines for the top, ending up with a Lego Luke Skywalker and a girl with an afro!

Lego Wedding Cake 2Leaving it in Margaret’s capable hands, we knew the cake would be amazing, we just didn’t realise it would be THAT amazing! It completely blew us away, caused lots of entertainment for our guests and made the day complete. For that reason, I felt it was worth its own blog post. Margaret – thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the best wedding cake ever, much better than we ever could have imagined 🙂
