I have recently been thinking a lot about combining chocolate and pretzels, creating a sweet and salty taste all-in-one. I decided to also add my two old friends, nutella and peanut butter. You can only subtly taste these, however they both act as glue, adding another sweet and salty element. Et voila, no-bake Pretzel Chocolate Bars.
These bars are also my entry to the September Alpha Bakes, a fantastic monthly challenge hosted by The More Than Occasional Baker and Caroline Makes. Each month, they pick a random letter and you have to bake with an ingredient starting with that letter. This month’s letter is ‘P’, so mine is almost a double entry as it has pretzels and peanut butter!
Ingredients
85g unsalted butter
2 tbsp golden syrup
2 tbsp crunchy peanut butter
120g digestives (crushed)
120g salted pretzels (broken into small pieces)
1 tbsp nutella
2 tbsp cocoa powder
White chocolate (to decorate)
Put the butter, golden syrup and peanut butter in a medium size saucepan and melt over a low heat. Once melted add the digestives, pretzels, cocoa powder and nutella, and mix until all combined. Line a loaf tin with clingfilm (or a mini-loaf tin as I did), and gently pack the mixture in.
Place in the fridge to firm up slightly, then decorate with white chocolate and keep in the fridge until ready to be consumed – enjoy

ooh now this sounds like a delicious snack bar. A kind of grown up version of chocolate krispies. And anything with nutella is a winner in my book
Posted by workinglondonmummy | August 27, 2012, 19:19It is! I actually wanted to use coco pops but did not have any so went for digestives instead. I am a big fan of anything that does not require an oven in the summer!

Posted by Recipe Junkie | August 28, 2012, 14:20Thanks – I brought some into the office and they disappeared very quickly! The salty/sweetness works really well together.
