Solace Bake Sale – Can you help?

For almost a year now, I have been on the fundraising committee for Solace Women’s Aid, a fantastic London-based charity which provides support to women and children who are victims of domestic and sexual violence. Solace works relentlessly to reach as victims as possible who need their help, providing services such as an advice line, managing refuges, counselling, legal advice and much more. I have helped out many charities over the years but none have inspired me as much as Solace does. Domestic and sexual violence have a huge stigma around them (more than you would expect), which means that Solace and other similar charities face problems from all angles. All the recent government cuts are threatening many of Solace’s vital services, which was one reason for setting up a fundraising committee and organising events to try and provide another form of income for the charity. For more information about Solace, please visit their website. On Saturday 18 August, we will be taking over part of East London, by hosting a Bake Sale and DJ event. We are holding the Bake Sale from 1 – 5pm on the upper level of the Boxpark at Shoreditch High Street station, the world’s first pop-up mall made up of ‘box shops’ (old shipping containers). Boxpark have generously donated the space for free – so all we need now is the cakes! For any bakers/cake suppliers based in London who can donate cakes, cupcakes, cookies, flapjacks, traybakes or any other yummy baked good – please email me at smith.rebecca.amy@gmail.com. As long as it is yummy (and obviously not poisonous), we will very graciously accept all donations, as every penny of the proceeds will be going straight back to Solace. Also, if any cake box suppliers also want to donate packaging please get in touch too – as it will be helpful to provide a ‘takeaway’ service. For those of you who are not inclined to baking, please still come along to enjoy some of the delicious treats we will have on offer. ALSO, we are running a fantastic Sounds of Solace DJ summer party just around the corner at 93 Feet East on Brick Lane. From 3pm – 1am, a selection of up and coming DJs will be strutting their stuff at this great venue. There is an outside area (hopefully where we can enjoy the sunshine), tickets are only £6 and you can dance off all the cake – what more could you ask for!For more information about either event, please just drop me an email. Contact details for both venues are:

  2. Hi there,
Just found your blog via twitter; are you still looking for bakers to contribute to your bake sale? Sounds like a great cause.
